When choosing calculation software, the right question is not “how many features does it have” but who uses it, on which works, and on what scientific basis. This page collects GeoStru’s references in three verifiable forms: the research carried out with universities, the scientific publications in which our codes are used, and a selection of public geological and geotechnical reports — filed by public bodies, provinces, municipalities and utility companies — that state they used GeoStru programs. Every entry links to the original document.
GeoStru in figures: over 20 years of activity, over 50 desktop programs plus the GeoStru NX web platform, more than 50,000 active licences in 135 countries.
Research with universities
- Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (Romania). Prof. Cosmin G. Chiorean, full professor of Structural Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and head of the research unit Computational Modeling and Advanced Simulation in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering, has collaborated with GeoStru since 2007 as a researcher for software development and has contributed components of two of our finite element codes: GFAS, the FEM system for geotechnical applications, and RSL III 2D, for two-dimensional local seismic response of soils and structures, developed and maintained by the in-house GeoStru team. The research behind these codes is documented by publications in peer-reviewed international journals (Engineering Structures, Computers & Structures, Journal of Constructional Steel Research).
- University of Calabria. A long-standing relationship: doctoral students hosted in our offices, joint projects and degree theses on the application of GeoStru codes to real cases, supervised with Prof. Eng. Maurizio Ponte and co-supervised by Eng. Filippo Catanzariti — among them The “Vermicelli” landslide in Rende (CS) of March 2010: application of a FEM method to slope stability analysis (V. Aceto, 2012/13), Geotechnical and geomechanical study of tunnels by finite elements with the GFAS software (S. Talarico, 2012/13) and Seismic surface waves in horizontally layered soils (P. Rogati, 2010/11).
- University of Siena — CGT Engineering. Framework research agreement with the Joint Laboratory for Geotechnology Applied to the Environment (Prof. Eros Aiello) on applied geology, geomorphology, geotechnics and seismics, with joint publications.
- Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria. Thesis in Telecommunications Engineering on the GeoStru e-commerce portal (A. Seminara, supervisors Prof. D. Ursino and Eng. F. Catanzariti, 2005/06).

Lippelli, Geologia Tecnica & Ambientale no. 2/2020, journal of the Italian National Council of Geologists, from the collaboration with the GeoTechnologies Centre of the University of Siena: RSL III 2D.

Public works and studies computed with GeoStru software
A selection of public documents — available on the bodies’ websites — in which the designer states the GeoStru program used. Not all of them: the ones anyone can verify by opening the link (documents in Italian).
| Body / client | Work or study | GeoStru software declared | Document |

GeoStru’s clients also include railway-sector companies and Metropolitana S.p.A.; the programs have been used in the metro projects of Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca and in the design of shopping centres in Oradea (Romania), where SPW – Sheet piles and diaphragm walls was used for the excavation support works. On the blog we described a complete application case: the Niscemi landslide, with hydrogeological risk analysis, 3D modelling and slope stability.
Why these references matter
A program that appears in the reports of a Province, a Region or a public transport company has passed the hardest test: that of the checker, who reads the calculation report and must be able to follow it. That is why GeoStru reports quote methods, assumptions and code references explicitly, and why the codes have the reliability and validation documentation required by the Italian NTC 2018 (§10.2) — to which the Municipality of Toano’s report explicitly refers.

Yes. For example Study on the Stability of a Road Fill Embankment (INTER-ENG 2016, Elsevier), in which a road embankment is analysed with Slope, and the article on the two-dimensional local seismic response of a building in Sant’Elpidio a Mare in Geologia Tecnica & Ambientale 2/2020 (journal of the Italian National Council of Geologists), plus the volume Terre rinforzate (EPC Editore) and university theses.
Yes: for every program the reliability and validation documentation of the calculation code (§10.2 NTC 2018) is available, to which geotechnical reports can refer, as the Municipality of Toano’s report does for the MDC software.
